Our Approach
to Ministry - Principle over Program
Although we have very specific programs set up to
respond to the needs of our community, at the core
what we have at Neighborhood Fellowship is principle
over program. We are a ministry to the whole person.
We are intentional in that we do not set up explicit
programs that hem us in, preventing us from changing
as the needs change with each individual or family.
Because we work with those in our community that
are the most challenging to serve - everything we
do - every action - counts dramatically and demands
adaptability.
We come to a situation that needs drastic intervention.
Neighborhood Fellowship works with the people of our
community struggling to make life possible, people who
need out of the cold on a frigid night, women who need
help getting out of a violently abusive relationship,
young people who have dropped out of school, children
who are malnourished or suffering under the ill effects
of neglect. These are the people we walk together with
everyday. Our influence in a young man's life may keep
him out of jail; the influence in a young woman's life
will help her to graduate and find a living wage job;
ultimately, our influence will help those in distress
find shelter in the Living God. We have the opportunity
to bring together a forgiven community, a forgiven community
that is also forgiving each other daily. We address needs
in our church through relationships, love, and compassion.
Although we are often called to action that seems
unrelated to our strategy at times, we consistently
return to the major points of our mission:
worship, evangelism, teaching and service.
The leadership
of Neighborhood Fellowship is unified and diligent
in its purpose and the strengths of Neighborhood
Fellowship are exhibited by our commitment
to:
» Obedience
and willingness to sacrifice;
» Adaptability: our form does not rule function;
» Relevance to the culture of the city;
» Responsiveness to those in need and to those who give;
» Faithfulness in leadership development from within
the community;
» Commitment to spiritual growth and discipline;
» Acumen in regard to finances and oversight; and
» Relationships with like-minded churches, individuals,
and organizations
